Pick-em Hubs
How pick-ems work
Everything you need to know about picks, points, knockout rules, and settling up with friends.
How pick-ems work
- Each hub is a private group picking results for a tournament.
- Pick 1 (home win), X (draw), or 2 (away win) per match. Group stage offers all three; knockout rounds require a winner — only 1 or 2 are shown (extra time and penalties count).
- After the match ends, correct picks earn stage points; wrong or missing picks earn 0.
- Highest total points wins the hub. Ties break by more correct picks, then who joined earlier.
Making picks
- Open a hub → Fixtures to see upcoming and finished matches.
- Tap your choice before the match locks — 1, X, or 2 in the group stage; 1 or 2 only in knockouts.
- You can change your mind until lock time.
- If you have no pick when a match locks, it counts as wrong and earns 0 points.
Points per stage
- Each correct pick earns points based on the match stage. Group-stage wins usually earn fewer points than knockout wins. Wrong or missing picks earn 0 points. The hub owner sets these numbers — higher values make later rounds worth more.
- Example with defaults: a correct group-stage pick earns 1 point; round of 32 earns 1; round of 16 earns 2; a correct final pick earns 5.
- Only the hub owner can change these in Settings. Saving new values recalculates everyone's totals.
Two ways to settle
- Choose how your group settles money offline. Points and the leaderboard work the same in both modes — only the money story changes. Pick one mode for the whole tournament.
- Night Out: Night Out: every wrong pick chips into a group pot. Everyone pays their fines; you spend the full pot together (drinks, dinner, etc.). No individual winner payout — points are for bragging rights.
- Prize Pool: Prize Pool: wrong picks fund a prize pot. Top scorers get a share of the pot based on points (or rank). Each person pays their fines and receives their prize share — net settlement shows who is up or down.
- The hub owner picks one mode in Settings before the tournament. Points and leaderboard ranking are identical in both modes.
Fines per stage
- Each value applies twice: a correct pick earns that many points (leaderboard), and a wrong or missing pick costs that much in the hub currency (fines into the pot). Example: final = 5 means 5 points if right, €5 if wrong.
- By default, fines use the same numbers as points. Owners can enable separate fine amounts in Settings if needed.
- Example with defaults: a wrong group-stage pick costs €1; a wrong final pick costs €5.
- Only settled wrong or missing picks count toward fines.
Lock policy
- Controls when picks become final for each match.
- At kickoff (default): Picks lock when the match kicks off. You can change your choice any time before that moment.
- Hours before kickoff: Picks lock a set number of hours before kickoff — useful if you want everyone locked in early.
- Practice mode: Picks stay open even after matches finish, until the owner settles the hub. Good for replaying past tournaments with friends.
Pick visibility
- Controls when you can see other members' picks — not when you can place your own.
- Hidden until lock (default): Other members cannot see your picks until that match locks. After lock, everyone's choices for that match are revealed.
- Visible always: Everyone can see everyone else's picks at all times — more transparent, less secretive.
Leaderboard & settlement
- Leaderboard ranks members by total points (highest first) — always, regardless of settlement mode.
- Night Out settlement shows each member's fines and the group pot total.
- Prize Pool settlement shows fines owed, prize share, and net settlement (share minus fines). The owner chooses winner-take-all, proportional, or top-3 split.
- Owners can optionally flag members who missed locked matches on settlement. That flag is informational only.
- Point totals and prize values are informational only. Friends settle amounts offline. This app is not a gambling operator and does not process payments.
Hubs, invites & roles
- Anyone can create a hub and invite friends with a short code (Join in the app).
- The owner manages settings, invite codes, and can remove members.
- Members can pick matches, view the leaderboard, and see settlement totals.
